Fun City is a cyberpunk tabletop AP podcast that has been running for seven years. Our game takes place around the year 2100, in New York City. This means we collectively imagine what the city, the country, the world, looks like in 70+ years.
The show depicts many science fiction tropes: bionic limbs, self-driving cars, a pervasive Internet of Things, and so on. However, as the central plot of the show involves mysterious collusion between private, municipal and criminal enterprises, we must also imagine a future for these things, and their constituent parts: banking, healthcare, real estate, weapons dealing, politics, extortion, bureaucracy itself.
In the course of the show there have been several occasions where a potential future described has actually come to pass in the real, actual world (an easier feat when one considers how long we’ve been at this, but nonetheless): Amongst our listeners we have developed a strange reputation, a kind of infamy for accurate, accidental soothsaying.
This zine is about that phenomenon: media which predicts the future (tho perhaps it does not intend to). Not all of the subject matter contained herein relates directly to Fun City, but some does—and either way, being familiar with all (or any) of the show’s catalog is not required.
Physical zine includes PDF.
